Pet Friendly Spring Fruits & Veggies

Author: Nicole Rando

Humans get bored of eating the same meals all the time. Why wouldn’t our pets feel the same ? With the weather warming up and the spring crops becoming available, this is a great time to introduce your pet to something tasty and healthy!

Try sprucing up your pets' diet by adding some fruits or vegetables to their meals. Just a heads up, if you are a first time pet owner or even an experienced one, always double check what fruits and veggies are safe for your pet. Unfortunately, some can be toxic and do more harm than good. Luckily, I’ve picked some safe ones out for you to start :

Carrots - low calorie , high fiber, vitamin A, potassium & good for dental health. Cooked or raw is ok, ask your pup what they prefer.

Peas -  high in vitamin A, vitamin K, and various B vitamins. But be careful too many peas and your dog will be farting a lot !

Arugula - mainly  water,  a great low calorie treat and dogs like the crunch! Great training treat for dogs who are trying to get bikini ready.

Mango - high in fiber, vitamin A, B6, C, and E, making it super nutritious! This snack is sweet, so your dog will probably love it!

Pineapple - packed with Vitamin C, has thiamin, vitamin B6, riboflavin, folate and full of minerals like iron, magnesium and potassium, very nutritious!

Oranges - vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and are low in sodium, which makes them a healthy snack if given in limited amounts. (one or two pieces a day) Also helps the immune system!

Introducing these new foods should be done in moderation. Always be aware of any side effects or digestion reactions, every dog can react differently. Most importantly do not forget to have FUN!

The next time you're making a delicious smoothie set some fruit or veggies aside and count your pup in! Enjoy!
